Simon R. Platt

Simon R. Platt, BVM&S, FRCVS, DACVIM (Neurology), DECVN, is a professor of neurology and neurosurgery at University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. His research interests include ischemic disease of the central nervous system, canine brain tumors, and epilepsy.
Dr. Platt is a member of the International Veterinary Epilepsy Task Force and a founding member of the Southeastern Veterinary Neurology Group. He has authored or coauthored more than 200 journal articles and 60 book chapters and is the co-editor of three textbooks: BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Neurology, Manual of Small Animal Neurological Emergencies, and Canine and Feline Epilepsy: Diagnosis and Management. Dr. Platt received his veterinary degree from University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Ontario Veterinary College (University of Guelph) and residency in neurology and neurosurgery at University of Florida.

Frane Banovic

Dr. Banovic is an associate professor of veterinary dermatology in the Department for Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Banovic favors interdisciplinary approaches to biological questions and incorporates basic immunology as well as cell biological and biochemical approaches in his research. His main research interests lie in the field of comparative allergies, related staphylococcal skin infections, and autoimmune skin diseases.
Dr. Banovic is actively involved with the European College of Veterinary Dermatology and is currently the chair of the Scientific Committee for the European Congress of Veterinary Dermatology in 2021. He has published numerous scientific articles and lectures nationally and internationally.
Cindy Charlier

Dr. Charlier brings more than 35 years of small animal practice and ownership experience to dentistry continuing education programs. She spent the first 19 years of her practice career as an owner of a 22 doctor, 3 hospital, AAHA small animal practice in the Chicago suburbs. Dr. Charlier is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College and owned a dentistry and oral surgery referral practice for 13 years. She has been recognized by her peers as the recipient of the Peter Emily Outstanding Candidate Award and the Fellow of the Year Award. In 2017, Dr. Charlier was honored to receive the NAVC Small Animal Speaker of the Year Award.
In 2004, she founded VDENT (Veterinary Dental Education, Networking & Training) to educate the entire veterinary healthcare team about the importance of oral health and its impact on all of our patients. Since 2015, Dr. Charlier has devoted her time and energy pursuing her passion to raise the quality of oral healthcare pets receive by educating hospital teams internationally.
Clara Goh

Dr. Goh earned her veterinary degree at Sydney University, Australia. She completed her postgraduate specialty training (rotating internship, surgical residency, and surgical oncology fellowship) at Colorado State University, where she currently holds a faculty position in small animal orthopedic surgery. Her clinical and research interests include cruciate disease, hip dysplasia, and minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy). Dr. Goh has been an invited speaker and instructor at numerous conferences and surgical labs throughout the United States, supporting continuing education of veterinarians from around the world. She is also the current small animal surgery program chair for the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC).
Chad Johannes

Dr. Johannes is an Associate Professor and Director of the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University. He joined CSU after 7 years working to develop the oncology program at Iowa State University. His industry experience includes former Medical Director at Aratana Therapeutics and coordination of the launch of Palladia® during his time with Zoetis. Dr. Johannes’s practice experience includes primary care, specialty care, and academic settings. His areas of research interest include oncology therapeutic development and market introduction, environmental causes of cancer, and effective management of treatment-related side effects.
Michael Schaer

Dr. Michael Schaer received his DVM degree from the University of Illinois in 1970. He then went to the Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York City where he served as an intern and then as a medicine resident between 1970-73. After the residency, he remained at the AMC as a staff member in the Department of Medicine until 1977. He then joined a private small animal practice in New Jersey until late 1978 at which time he joined the faculty at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, where he has remained until the present time. He has published several papers and book chapters and has lectured nationally and internationally. Dr. Schaer is also the author of five textbooks: Clinical Medicine of the Dog and Cat, 1st-4th editions and Clinical Signs in Small Animal Medicine, 1st and 2nd editions.
At UF, Dr. Schaer functions mainly as a clinician and a teacher. His previous UF professional duties included: Professor and Associate Chairman of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, Associate Chief of Staff of the Small Animal Hospital, and Service Chief of Small Animal Medicine. Dr. Schaer served as Interim Chair of the Department of Comparative, Diagnostic, and Population Medicine from February 2017 to September 2018. He is currently Professor Emeritus and Adjunct Professor in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, while still doing active teaching in the classroom and in the critical care unit. Dr. Schaer is board certified in internal medicine (ACVIM) and emergency and critical care (ACVECC). He is on the board of directors of the North American Society of Toxicology and is an associate member of the American College of Physicians.
Camille Torres

Dr. Torres attended Colorado State for her undergraduate and veterinary education. After she earned her DVM in 2001, she went into small animal private practice in Albuquerque, N.M. She joined community practice at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital in 2008, and earned her feline and canine DABVP certification in 2011. As a general practitioner, she has observed the power of preventive medicine. Seeing how preventing disease can be so much easier for a pet than treatment led her to explore the effects of obesity on companion animals and nutrition’s role in obesity management. Her enthusiasm for nutrition in multiple areas inspired her to seek additional training in the field of nutrition at CSU, and she completed a residency in nutrition and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Nutrition) in 2021. Her furry family consists of one cat, a Corgi, and a Yorkiepoo. She enjoys spending time with her husband and their two boys, taking every opportunity to participate in the wonderful outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer.
