External coaptation is the use of bandages, splints, casts, or other materials to aid in stability and support for soft and osseous tissues. In carefully selected instances, coaptation may be used as ancillary support for internal fixation of fractures. Coaptation for temporary first aid immobilization is discussed in this CE article.
